05.25Famous Car Parts Makers
Who are your famous makers of car parts? Below is a list of the famous car parts maker in history of my personal preference.
Car Part Maker #1: Nicolaus August Otto
In the year as early as 1876, Nicolaus invented the first gas motor engine. This is one of the most important landmarks in the design of car engine. The first practical four-stroke internal combustion engine called the “Otto Cycle Engine” was then been built in later year. Nicolaus was not only an engineer but also a proliferate inventor. It came with not surprising that he built a motorcycle using that engine too!
Car Part Maker #2: Gottlieb Daimler
Gottlieb Daimler received his first patent in 1885 on what is now recognized as the prototype of the modern gas engine. The engine he prototyped used gasoline-injected carburetor. It was small, lightweight, fast and powerful. Because of its size, speed, and efficiency, that engine allowed for a revolution in car part design.
Gottlieb is given credit by historians for designing the world’s very first four-wheeled automobile in 1886. This first four-wheeled car started what is today considered to be one of the top ten industries in the world: used car parts and aftermarket parts.
Car Part Maker #3: Karl Benz
In 1885, German mechanical engineer Karl Benz designed and built the world’s first practical automobile to be powered by an international combustion engine. He also received the first patent in 1886 for a gas-fueled car. It was a three-wheeler; Benz built his first four wheeled car in 1891. By 1900, his company had become the world’s largest manufacturer of automobiles.
Car Part Maker #4: John Lambert
Live in the town of Ohio City, John Lambert was a very successful developer and businessman of car part and engine.
Car Part Maker #5: Duryea Brothers
Charles and Frank Duryea were America’s first commercial car manufacturers. The brothers were originally bicycle makers who became interested in gasoline engines and automobiles. In 1893 they built their first automobile and successfully tested it on the public streets of Springfield, Massachusetts.
The Duryea Motor Wagon Company was founded in 1896 by Charles, and it was the first company to manufacturer and sell gasoline powered vehicles. In less than a year the company had sold 13 cars of the model Duryea, an expensive limousine, which remained in production into the 1920s.
Car Part Maker #6: Henry Ford
The list of famous car parts maker would not be complete without the memorable Henry Ford. The greatest gift which Henry Ford possessed was his ability to improve mass assembly techniques as his (Model-T) automobile was being built. He was absolutely confident about his assembly line technique that he proclaimed, “I will build a car for the great multitude”. With his vision, he changed the world by bring affordable cars in the life of millions.
After nineteen years of research, development and production of the Model-T, fifteen and half million were sold for a low of $280 and a high of $950. In year 1914 at his Highland Park, Michigan plant was turning out a chassis every 93 minutes, compared with other manufactures at 728 minutes.
Car had evolved from a luxury item for the well-to-do to essential transportation for the ordinary man after nineteen years since Model-T was mass produced in the United States. It was no wonder that auto historians herald Henry’s Model-T marked the beginning of the Motor Age.
