How To Perform An Allergy Testing?

Allergies occur when our immune system does not recognize certain substance that can possibly harmful and try to protect us from the possible danger. It is a natural response whenever we in contact with the substances in the air, direct applied on the skin, or orally. We can conduct some common allergy testing methods to determine the type of allergies we are allergic to and then choose the best treatment for it.

Skin Prick Or Scratch Allergy Testing

Skin prick or scratch testing is one of the common allergy testing methods. This method is conducted by applying small amount of substances suspected to cause the allergy on the skin. This will provoke the state of allergy by direct contact of the substance with the skin. If you have any allergic reaction to the substance used, you will normally experience the reaction within 30 minutes to an hour.

Skin prick is a fast and surefire way to effectively find out the substance that you suspect you are allergic to. This test can be performed together with other substances at once in order to cut down the allergy testing time and to find out the right cause and possible treatment method.

Intradermal Allergy Testing

Similar to skin prick or scratch allergy testing, Intradermal allergy testing is another popular allergy testing methods similar to skin prick or scratch testing, with the only difference that the suspected allergens are injected into the skin to provoke any allergies reaction desired.

Radioallergosorbent (RAST) or blood test is another surefire way to accurately determine the reaction of allergies. This method is more to performance only in laboratory as it measures the level of specific antibodies known as IgE that are only present in the cause of allergic reaction.

Conclusion

Allergy reactions testing can be quite tricky sometime as it needs to go through several allergy testing procedures in order to accurately determine the source of the allergies. The cause of your allergies can be from any source: food, perfumes, flowers, animal dander, dust or even some items that you were not allergic to before when our immune system becomes weaker as you grow older and thus more prone to affect by allergies to the thing that we did not before.
